Dual Layer Motion Detection

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Overview

Arcules is introducing Dual Layer Motion Detection, an enhancement for supported Arcules-connected cameras that combines on-camera analytics with Arcules video intelligence to significantly reduce the risk of missed motion events.

This feature leverages two independent motion detection aspects:

  • Camera-side analytics: These provide localized, context-aware motion detection directly from the camera hardware.

  • Gateway-based detection: This layer adds broader, real-time monitoring across connected devices.

By combining these two layers, Dual Layer Motion Detection delivers a more intelligent and reliable motion detection system.

Whether you're monitoring high-traffic environments or securing sensitive areas, this dual-layer approach ensures that your video analytics are both robust and responsive, giving you greater confidence in your surveillance outcomes.

What’s Included

  • Dual Layer Motion Detection

    • Uses on-device analytics (on select cameras) along with the gateway-only motion detection algorithm.

    • Designed to improve detection accuracy and reduce false positives.

How to Enable the Dual Layer Motion Detection Functionality

  1. Access the Arcules web portal.

  2. On the left menu, select Devices. Then click on the All Devices menu.

  3. A list of devices will be displayed on the right side. Select the desired device for which you wish to enable camera-based motion detection.

  4. On the right panel (also known as Device Drawer) you will see the device details. On the top right side, select the Settings options.

  5. Select the Recording Settings option

  6. The Edit Camera Recording Schedule dialog will be displayed. In the bottom part the Camera-based motion detection checkbox will be displayed.

Note: The Camera-based motion detection checkbox is only visible if the On motion 24x7 or Custom preset is selected in the Recording Scheduler Presets options.

  7. Click the SAVE button.

  8. Apply these steps to all gateway-connected devices you would like to activate this feature on.

Note: The Dual Layer Motion Detection functionality is available only to the devices with these requirements:

  • Devices that support the ONVIF Profile M and Profile T standard.

  • Devices that emit MotionAlarm topic events.

If these criteria are not met, the Camera-based motion detection checkbox won't be available.
