Overview
Selective Redaction allows you to create a downloadable copy of video evidence with selected faces and license plates blurred. This is useful when you need to share evidence while protecting personally identifiable information.
The original evidence remains available in the Case. After the blurred video is processed, you can download the blurred version from the same evidence menu.
Prerequisites
You must have access to the Arcules web portal.
You must have permission to manage and download case evidence.
The video must already be exported to a Case.
The evidence must contain detectable faces or license plates.
For more information on exporting evidence to a Case, see the Cases article.
Creating a Blurred Video
Selecting Evidence for Redaction
Navigate to the Cases page in the Arcules web portal.
Select the Case that contains the video evidence.
In the Evidence section, locate the video you want to blur.
Click the three-dot menu for the evidence item.
Select Blur. The selective blur editor opens in a new overlay.
Selecting Faces and License Plates
All detections start selected. Selected detections will be blurred in the exported video. Unselected detections will remain visible.
In the Face/License Plate Selector panel, choose either the Faces tab or the Plates tab.
Review the detected faces or license plates.
To keep a detection visible, clear the checkbox on that detection.
To blur a detection, make sure the detection is selected.
You can also click a face or license plate box directly on the video canvas to toggle whether that detection will be blurred.
Note: If there are multiple pages of detections, review each page before processing the video.
Reviewing the Video
Use the timeline and playback controls to review the evidence before starting the blur process.
Keyboard controls:
* Space: Play or pause the video.
* Left Arrow / Right Arrow: Step backward or forward by one frame.
* Shift + Left Arrow / Shift + Right Arrow: Jump backward or forward by ten frames.
Processing and Downloading the Blurred Video
1. After selecting the faces and license plates you want to blur, click Start Processing.
2. A Preparing Download message appears while the blurred video is being generated.
3. When the blurred video is ready, click Download Blurred Video.
Best Practices
Review both the Faces and Plates tabs before processing.
Check each page of detections if pagination is shown.
Scrub through the video to verify detections across the full evidence clip.
Unselect only the detections that should remain visible in the final download.
Download and review the blurred video before sharing it outside your organization.
