Triton IoT Smart Sensor (Limited Release)

Add and configure a Triton IoT Smart Sensor, view its air quality, vape/smoke, noise, temperature, and occupancy sensors, and create rules and alarms from sensor readings. Limited Release — Triton Ultra.

Triton IoT devices provide detections and measurements for a wide range of environmental and occupancy factors — air quality, particulates, vape and smoke, temperature and humidity, noise and aggression, and people and cell phone counts. Each measurement is reported to the cloud as a sensor value that can be used to configure Rules for notifications or alarms.

Not all sensors may be available or enabled on every Triton model at the time of installation. Sensor availability depends on the model selected when the device is added.


Adding a Triton IoT Device

  1. Go to Devices page > IoT and select Add IoT Device.

  2. Select the Site, Location, and Gateway the device connects through.

  3. Select a Manufacturer — choose Triton.

  4. Select a Model — for example, Triton Ultra.

  5. Enter a Name of Device. This is the name that appears throughout the system, including in Rules and Alarms.

  6. Select NEXT.

  7. On the Configure IoT Device screen, select the connection type — TCP/IP.

  8. Enter the IP Address, Username, and Password for the device. All three fields are required.

  9. Select SAVE.

Note: The username and password are the credentials configured on the Triton device itself. If the credentials or IP address change on the device, the connection must be updated in Connection Settings or the device will report as Offline.


Device Overview

Once added, the device opens to the OVERVIEW tab. The device name and IP address appear at the top, along with the connection state (ONLINE or OFFLINE).

Camera Views

Associate one or more camera views with the IoT device so that video is available alongside sensor events. Select + Add Camera View to link a camera.

Topology

A visual path showing the Location, the Gateway, and the Triton device.

Hardware Details

Type, Model, and MAC Address of the device.

Connection

IP Address, Added Date, Site, Location, Gateway, and Timezone.

Use SETTINGS to open Connection Settings, the pencil icon to rename the device, and REMOVE DEVICE to delete it from the system.


Connection Settings

Select SETTINGS on the device panel to update how the system connects to the Triton device.

Field

Description

Name

The display name of the device.

IP Address

The IP address the gateway uses to reach the device.

Username

The device account used for polling.

Password

The password for that account.

SAVE is enabled only after a change is made. Updating the IP address or credentials here does not affect any Rules already configured for the device.


Sensors Tab

The SENSORS tab lists every sensor reported by the Triton device. Each sensor can be enabled or disabled individually, and the whole device can be toggled on or off using the IoT Device toggle at the top of the list.

All Triton sensors are reported as the Counter value type — a numeric reading that can be compared against a threshold in a Rule. Disabling a sensor stops it from being collected and from triggering Rules; it does not remove any Rule that references it.


Status Tab

The STATUS tab shows the live value of every enabled sensor together with the time it was last updated. Use this tab to confirm the device is reporting and to see the current baseline for a sensor before setting a Rule threshold.

A sensor with an older Last Updated time than the rest of the list generally indicates a reading that only changes on an event (for example, Vape / Smoke Level) rather than a connection problem.

Note: Check a sensor's current reading on the STATUS tab to establish a baseline before choosing a comparator and threshold for a Rule.


Creating Rules for Triton Sensors

Triton events are used in Rules the same way as any other device event. Go to Settings > Rules and select New Custom Rule.

  1. Enter a Rule Name and Rule Description.

  2. Optionally select Filter Repeated Events to suppress repeat triggers from the same condition.

  3. Under Where, select the Sites and Locations the rule applies to.

  4. Under What, set Device Type to TRITON and select one or more Devices.

  5. Select a Value Type — either Health Status or Counter.

Health Status rules

Select Health Status to trigger on device connectivity, then set Value to Offline or Online.

Counter rules

Select Counter to trigger on a sensor reading. Choose the Sensor, a Comparator (for example, Less Than or Greater Than), and a threshold Value.

  1. Select ADD CONDITIONS to combine more than one sensor condition in the same rule.

  2. Complete the remaining rule sections to define the action — such as an alarm or a notification — and save the rule.

Note: Only enabled sensors generate events. If a Rule never triggers, confirm the sensor is toggled on in the SENSORS tab and that it is reporting a current value in the STATUS tab.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)



Models and Hardware

Q: Which Triton models are supported?

A: Triton Ultra is the current supported model in this Limited Release. Additional models may be added in future releases.

Q: Does the device need a gateway?

A: Yes. Each Triton device is assigned to a gateway at the Site and Location where it is installed. The gateway must be online and able to reach the device on the network.



Setup and Connection

Q: How does the system connect to a Triton device?

A: Over TCP/IP, using the device's IP address and a username and password configured on the Triton device itself. All three values are required.

Q: What happens if the device's IP address or credentials change?

A: The device reports as OFFLINE until the new values are entered in Connection Settings. Updating these values does not affect existing Rules.

Q: Can I rename a device after it is added?

A: Yes. Use the pencil icon next to the device name, or update the Name field in Connection Settings.



Sensors and Data

Q: What value type do Triton sensors use?

A: All Triton sensors report as the Counter value type — a numeric reading that can be compared against a threshold in a Rule.

Q: Can I turn individual sensors off?

A: Yes. Each sensor has its own toggle on the SENSORS tab, and the IoT Device toggle at the top of the list enables or disables the whole device.

Q: Does disabling a sensor delete Rules that use it?

A: No. The Rule remains, but the sensor stops being collected and will not trigger the Rule.

Q: Where do I see current sensor readings?

A: On the STATUS tab, which shows the current value and the last updated time for every enabled sensor.

Q: Why does one sensor have a much older Last Updated time than the others?

A: Some sensors only report when the reading changes — for example, Vape / Smoke Level. An older timestamp on those sensors is normal and does not by itself indicate a connection problem.

Q: How often are sensor values updated?

A: Update frequency varies by sensor and by how quickly the reading changes. (Confirm the polling interval before publishing.)



Rules and Alarms

Q: What can I trigger a Rule on?

A: Two value types are available for Triton devices:

  • Health Status — triggers when the device goes Offline or Online.

  • Counter — triggers when a selected sensor's reading meets a comparator and threshold, for example Less Than 100.

Q: Can one Rule use more than one sensor?

A: Yes. Select ADD CONDITIONS in the What section to combine multiple sensor conditions in the same Rule.

Q: My Rule never triggers. What should I check?

A: Check the following:

  • The sensor is enabled on the SENSORS tab — only enabled sensors generate events.

  • The sensor is reporting a current value on the STATUS tab.

  • The comparator and threshold match the sensor's observed range. Use the STATUS tab to establish a baseline first.

Q: Can I use Triton events in alarms as well as notifications?

A: Yes. Triton events are used in Rules the same way as any other device event, so the action can be an alarm or a notification.

Q: Can I see video alongside Triton sensor events?

A: Yes. Use + Add Camera View on the device's OVERVIEW tab to associate one or more cameras with the IoT device.



Troubleshooting

Q: The device shows OFFLINE. What should I check?

A: Verify the IP address and credentials in Connection Settings, and confirm the assigned gateway is online and can reach the device on the network.

Q: A sensor is missing from the list.

A: Confirm the correct Model was selected when the device was added. Sensor availability varies by model.

Q: A sensor shows no current value.

A: Confirm the sensor is toggled on in the SENSORS tab, and that the device itself is enabled using the IoT Device toggle.

Q: How do I remove a Triton device?

A: Open the device and select REMOVE DEVICE at the bottom of the OVERVIEW tab.
