Recommendations for managing bandwidth at your site

Updated over 10 months ago

We want you to enjoy the best of Arcules, whether you're uploading to the cloud or watching live or playback footage. Here's how you can ensure smooth streaming and viewing:

Streaming video to the Cloud for storage (per channel)

  • 1 Mbps per second upload speed - Recommended for 720p @10 FPS

  • 2.5 Mbps per second upload speed - Recommended for 1080p @ 12 FPS

Viewing Live or Recorded video (per channel)

  • 1 Mbps per second download speed - Recommended for 720p @10 FPS

  • 2.5 Mbps per second download speed - Recommended for 1080p @ 12 FPS

Note: These recommendations are per channel. Multiply these numbers by the number of cameras that will be recording or you will be viewing at once to determine outbound/inbound bandwidth requirements.

Manage Camera Bandwidth Usage

Your cameras are versatile! To keep your bandwidth in check:

  • Adjust the resolution, FPS, and recording schedules to align with your available bandwidth.

  • Feeling a bandwidth crunch? Lowering video quality settings or upgrading your internet package can help.

  • For sites with limited bandwidth, consider setting your cameras to record on motion only.

Experiencing hiccups while watching live or recorded footage? This could be due to streaming too much data. Try reducing the number of cameras viewed simultaneously to see if that smooths things out.

Check Your Connection Speed

Before getting started, check your connection speed at https://www.speedtest.net/

We also have an in-built speed test that is available through Network Diagnostics tool.

Refer to the Speed Test in the settings page for more information.
