Gateway Set Up Guide

How to add a Gateway to your Arcules Portal.

Updated over 3 weeks ago

We're thrilled to have you on board and excited to guide you through setting up your new Arcules Gateway. Let's embark on this journey together to seamlessly connect your cameras to the cloud.

Identifying Your Gateway

The Arcules Gateway can come in many forms, and how you set them up can be a little different. Here are some helpful ways to determine what Gateway you have.

Arcules Supplied Gateway

An Arcules supplied Gateway will arrive in a box with Arcules branded tape on the box. We offer different form factors, such as a Micro Form Factor, a Small Form Factor, and a Rack Mount Form Factor. The Micro and Small Form Factors will be Dell Optiplex units, and our rack mount will be a Dell PowerEdge. Examples can be found here.

Micro and Small form factors will have a sticker on the unit with the MAC Address listed on it.

The rack mount units have a card that slides out on the front of the unit for this information.

You will need this later.

Third Party Hardware

We also work with some additional distributors that provide some Arcules Gateway options. These generally will not have the MAC Address stickers on them.

Virtual Machine Gateways

We do support the use of VMWare or Proxmox to create a virtual Arcules Gateway appliance. Please contact Arcules Support for more information on how to utilize this and requirements.

Gateway Status Screen

When the gateway is connected to the internet and powered on, it will boot up to a Status Screen.

For a new gateway, it is normal to see the 4 red boxes shown here. This simply means that the gateway has not been claimed yet, and will turn green once added via the Web Portal.

Setup Process

Firstly, unbox your shiny new Arcules Gateway and let's dive into the setup process. Here’s a simple guide to help you along the way:

MAC Address

To successfully add the Gateway to the Arcules Portal, you will need the MAC Address of the unit. If there is no sticker present on the Gateway itself, you will need to attach a monitor to the Gateway and power it up. The MAC Address will be available on the Gateway's Status Screen.

IMPORTANT: When first unboxing the Gateway, connect the device’s ethernet to your network before plugging in the power supply and turning it on.

If this is your organization's first Gateway, please follow instructions on how to register and log in to your portal.

Adding a Gateway

Within Arcules, Gateways must be associated with a Location. You can have multiple Gateways for the same location.

Now, head over to the Sites page in your portal. Here’s what to do:

  1. If you have an existing Location where this Gateway is to be installed, click on it.

  2. If this is a new Location, click "New Location" to create your unique location.

  3. Fill in your location details and hit save.

Once your location is set, select it to access a custom page for your location. For a quick view of all devices, click 'All Devices' and marvel at how the map view elegantly switches to a table view.

To add your Gateway, simply:

  1. Click the friendly blue '+' sign.

  2. Choose 'Add Gateway' from the dropdown.

  3. Enter the MAC-address, give your Gateway a name, and add it to your location.

After clicking Add, the cloud service will reach out to your new gateway and activate it. This will also automatically update the gateway to the latest version of the software. (This may take a few minutes). The portal's wizard will follow this process, and keep you in the loop to the status of the gateway.

You'll get a success message once the setup is complete. Now, you can either add cameras using the installation wizard or click Done if you’re all set for now. Need more info on adding and managing cameras? Our Devices Article is just a click away!

Gateway Edge Storage Mode

Edge gateways must be configured to run in Edge mode. If your gateway is not already in edge mode, you must contact Arcules Customer Care to enable the feature. Once this enabled, you must do the following steps to enable the feature on the front end:

  1. Click on Devices>Gateway>Storage

  2. Under Pure Cloud, click on Change Storage

  3. Place the number of days you would like to retain video for

  4. Click on Apply Changes

  5. Click on Convert
