Storage Options Edge vs Cloud storage

Updated over 11 months ago

Arcules provides two video storage options, Cloud Storage and Local gateway storage. Customer must subscribe to either local or cloud storage for their channels, on a per gateway basis.

For cloud storage, video recordings and metadata are temporarily stored on the gateway and uploaded to the cloud for video playback from the cloud. Recorded video is stored in the cloud based on the number of days of cloud storage retention defined in your subscription

For local storage, the Arcules Edge Cloud solution provides IT Managers or Installers the option to enable local gateway storage to reduce outbound bandwidth from video uploads to the cloud while benefiting from cloud managed video management.

Who can benefit from a Cloud Hybrid:

  • Customers with limited outbound bandwidth

  • Customers with high camera counts and limited outbound bandwidth

  • Customers that need to prioritize bandwidth during business hours for other systems

How Edge Cloud local storage works

IT Managers and Installers will have the ability to turn on local storage for each gateway they connect to the Cloud. This gives the flexibility based on the location to enable Cloud or Local Storage. Since video is stored on the gateway, a local retention time will need to be set for each gateway to age out video.

When a gateway is enabled for local storage mode, recorded video is stored on the gateway with metadata uploaded to the cloud. Video evidence for Cases will be archived in the cloud on demand. The video player will provide sequence data (recording/motion) for each channel and stream video from the gateway through the cloud when requested.

Enable Local Storage

  1. To enable local storage, navigate to the Devices list and select the gateway you want to enable local storage for. Once you are in the gateway device details, select the “Storage” tab.

  2. Click “Change Storage” and enter the retention time. Video is stored on the Gateway with an estimated maximum retention time or until the disk is full. The retention time set will be inherited by each camera connected to the gateway and can be overridden for each camera.

  3. Select “Apply Changes” to continue.

  4. Once you have verified you want to continue, click “Convert”. Note: This setting cannot be reverted.
