Instructions on adding and configuring your Access Door Controller to Arcules

Updated over 11 months ago

Access Control is currently only available to existing Access Control customers.

First Things First: Access Control Permissions

  1. Pop into the 'People' section of your Arcules interface.

  2. Choose the lucky team members who'll be working on Access Control.

  3. Elevate their capabilities by assigning them 'Access Control Admin' roles.

Little Tip: There are other roles too, for those who need just a slice of the Access Control features. Feel free to assign these as needed!

Gathering Your Toolkit

Here's what you'll need to bring your door controller to life:

Setting Up Your Door Controller - Let's Do This Right!:

  1. Do not connect any wires to your controller just yet!

  2. Connect the A1601 Door Controller or A1001 Door Controller to your network and be sure it has been assigned an IP address

  3. Log in to the Controller configuration interface by entering the IP address of the controller in a web browser E.g. http://192.168.1.2/

  4. On the Axis Page, go to 'Setup' > 'Hardware Configuration'. Here, set up your doors, readers, and REX settings. Don't forget to save!

  5. Next, under 'Setup', find 'Hardware PIN Chart' to guide your wiring process.
    Example:

  6. Once wired, the 'Hardware Connection Verification' utility in the Axis interface is your go-to for ensuring everything's connected perfectly.

  7. At any time you can also use the Event Log in the Axis interface to troubleshoot your hardware installation

Quick Checks Before Adding to Arcules

  • Update the firmware on your door controller (version 10.12.171.1 or above for A1601, and version 1.65.5 or above for A1001).

  • Run the hardware configuration wizard to set up readers and rex buttons.

  • Set the correct timezone and daylight saving settings.

  • Ensure proper time synchronization (through NTP servers or DHCP).

  • Assign a static local IP address to your controller and keep it safe from internet access.

  • Activate RTSP on the door controller.

Special Attention for A1001 Devices

  • Ensure that the A1001 is set to standalone mode. Using the A1001 in a system of connected controllers is not supported by Arcules.

If the A1001 controller has previously been part of a system of connected door controllers, you must restore the controller configuration. Setting the controller into standalone mode is not enough to completely clean up references to other door controllers. Follow these steps:

  1. Remove the A1001 controller from Arcules if it has already been added

  2. Backup the hardware configuration (optional, needed to avoid re-doing hardware configuration)

    1. On the A1001 controller go to Setup > Hardware Configuration > Export hardware configuration

  3. Do a device restore

    1. On the A1001 controller go to Setup > Additional Controller Configuration > System Options > Maintenance > Restore
Note: This clears all configuration on the controller incl. users, doors, schedules, etc.
Note: Use device restore instead of reset to avoid clearing network configuration

  4. Set the controller in standalone mode

    1. On the A1001 go to Setup > Manage Network Door Controllers in System and activate standalone mode

  5. (Optional) Import hardware configuration

    1. On the A1001 go to Setup > Hardware Configuration > Export hardware configuration > Reset and import hardware configuration

Adding the Controller to Arcules

  1. Log in to the Arcules web portal, and navigate to Access Control in the left menu:

  2. Select Configuration > Hardware and click the + Icon to add a controller.

  3. Once you have successfully added the controller, follow the steps to configure your doors by selecting SETTINGS > for each door.
