Remote access into device settings without being on the same network

Updated over 3 months ago

Remote device access allows a user with a specific role to launch device web apps via the Arcules web portal without being on the same network to perform the following functions:

  • Enable/modify edge analytics on cameras, AXIS AC and IoT devices

  • Update camera, AXIS AC and IoT device settings not available within Arcules

  • Update the camera, AXIS AC and IoT device firmware

This feature cannot be used to remotely access Arcules Gateways

Details

  • Remote Device Access is enabled for the entire org

  • The Remote Device Access (Limited) and Remote Device Access (Unrestricted) role will be the only supported roles to use this feature

Remote Device Access (Limited) Role

  • Cameras and devices must be connected to a gateway.

  • Remote access feature uses Port 80 or 443. Port 443 is the default port.

  • Remote device access can be launched in the device’s drawer panel.

  • In the overview tab, scroll down until you see the device’s IP address

  • Click ‘open connection’ to the right to launch a session

  • Choose a port in the modal dialog

  • You will be informed that the session will expire after 30 minutes.

  • Click continue, then a new browser tab will be opened to prompt you to enter your username and password for the device

Remote Device Access (Unrestricted) Role

  • Remote access to devices accessible by the Arcules gateway on the remote network in addition to cameras and devices connected to an Arcules gateway.

  • Remote device access can be launched in the device’s drawer panel.

  • Remote device access can be launched in Settings > Support Tools

  • You will be required to select a gateway, input an IP and Port #

  • Click ‘Connect’ to launch a session

  • You will be informed that the session will expire after 30 minutes.

  • Click continue, then a new browser tab will be opened to prompt you to enter your username and password for the device

Remote Device Access (Limited)

Navigate to a device drawer panel. Click 'Open Connection'

Select Port 443 or Port 80, click 'Continue'

Click 'Continue' once connection is established

A new tab will open to login to the device UI page. Sample AXIS UI

Remote Device Access (Unrestricted)

Click on Settings in the left navigation bar. Next look for the Support Tools page. Select a gateway, input IP address and port # then click 'Connect'. A new tab will open to login to the device.

Troubleshooting

Cameras that failed to connect to remote device access may be due to HTTPS settings not configured. If HTTPS is not configured, the users should choose "HTTP" (80) instead of "HTTPS" (443) in the Arcules web app.

Failure to connect may also be related to browser settings. Ensure HTTPS settings are always enforced by navigating to Google Chrome browser Settings > Privacy and Security > Always use secure connections.
