Overview
Remote Device Access is a feature granted by either the Remote Device Access (Limited) Role, or the Remote Device Access (Unrestricted) Role. This feature allows you to use the gateway the device is attached to and create a tunnel to the device's interface itself. This will allow you to configure or troubleshoot a device when not physically on-site. You would also need permissions to access Devices.
Using Remote Device Access (RDA) From Devices
If a device is already attached to the system, you can access the RDA feature from the Devices page.
Once there, click on the device you wish to access from the list of devices. This will give you the device's drawer on the right.
You will notice that where it has the IP Address of the device, both the IP Address and an Open Connection link are active. The IP Address will take you to that address directly, if you are on the local network. Open Connection will let you access the device via a tunnel on the gateway.
These links will open the connection in a new browser tab.
IP Address - (Remote Device Access (Limited)
If you have the Remote Device Access (Limited) role, you will only be able to access the camera via the local network. Clicking the link will take you to the device's web interface, and prompt you to log in.
Open Connection - Remote Device Access (Unrestricted)
If you have the Remote Device Access (Unrestricted) role, the Open Connection link will be present, and this will allow you to access the device from anywhere. Clicking this link will prompt you for if you want to access the device using HTTPS or HTTP. Make your selection and hit Continue.
NOTE: You can only have one RDA connection via the gateway at one time.
If it is able to connect to the device, it will advise you that the connection will be valid for 30 minutes, then end. Click Continue to access your device.
Now, via the tunnel you will get prompted to log into your device as if you were logging into it directly.
Remote Device Access via Settings - Remote Device Access (Unrestricted)
If you have not added the device to your gateway yet, if you have the Remote Device Access (Unrestricted) role, you can access this feature from your settings page.
You will click on the Support Tools section. Here you will pick the gateway that is on the same network as the device. You will enter the IP Address or hostname of the device, and the port you want to connect to (Usually port 80 or 443) and hit Connect.
This will open up a new tab, with the same process as the Open Connection link on an established device.
